Are your boxes all packed? What about your auto insurance?
Whether you're making the move to live with your sweetheart or you're moving your family to a bigger house, you'll know that the process of moving houses can be daunting. There's packing, planning, scheduling movers, paperwork, and more to do! Even though you have a full plate, there's one more essential item that you shouldn't forget to pack: your auto insurance.
You'll need to update your coverage.
As soon as you know that you'll be moving and where you'll be moving to, call your auto insurer. If the company does business in your new location, you may be able to update your policy to match your new needs. Talk to your agent to determine the best coverage for your new area and vehicle(s).
You must meet state requirements.
If you're moving across any state borders, you'll need to meet certain state standards. If you move to a state with lower required limits, you may be able to lower your premium if you feel comfortable reducing your coverage level - but note, doing so increases your risks, too.
Your risks may change.
Even if you're moving to the next town across, different zip codes have different risks. Your premium may decrease if your new neighborhood is less congested, has lower crime, and is at a lower risk for natural disasters. However, in an area where theft, vandalism, and flooding is rife, you can expect to pay out a little more for your coverage.
Make sure that you don't have a lapse in coverage by giving your local agents a call today!
